Abstract

395,028. Revivifying gas-purifier waste. COXON, T., Norton Hall, The Green, Norton-on-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Nov. 13, 1931, No. 31525. [Class 55 (ii).] In the revivification of an alkaline iron hydroxide suspension liquor used in the .removal of hydrogen sulphide from coke oven and like gas, a part of the liquor is treated with ferrous sulphate to precipitate iron compounds from the liquor which are returned to the purification system, the clear liquor being discarded. Solid ferrous sulphate is added to the make-up tank A in a purification system ; clear liquor is removed by an outlet C and the oxide slurry run into the main liquor stock in an aerating tank F. The regenerated liquor is pumped to the top of a scrubber G, spent liquor from the latter being returned to the tank F. The liquor is kept slightly alkaline with ammonia.
