Abstract

394,970. Interrupters ; control of motors. LANDIS ET GYR SOC. ANON., 1, Hofstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. Dec. 3, 1931, No. 33538. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1930. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v).] Relates to apparatus for converting irregularly occurring movements, such as those produced by a meter shaft in response to irregularly occurring impulses, into a corresponding number of regular movements, more particularly for producing regularly repeated impulses to avoid loss of impulses when the meter is subjected to rapidly fluctuating movements. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the shaft 22 which is subjected to irregular movements operates one wheel 19 of a differential mechanism 2, the planet wheel 26 of which rotates a cam 3 having a notch 27 so as to release a detent 5 and thereby allow the pivoted lever 4 to move the lever 10 longitudinally into the range of a motor driven cam 8. In this position, the lever 10 is oscillated by the cam teeth 28 to operate contacts 11, 12 at a regular speed and simultaneously operate a pivoted lever 18 carrying a pawl 16 which drives a ratchet wheel 17. The wheel 17 operates, through gearing 24, 25, the second wheel 23 of the differential 2, the arrangement being such that impulses are transmitted and the wheel 23 is operated at constant speed until when motion of the shaft 22 ceases, the planet wheel 26 is restored to its initial position and the cam 3 withdraws the lever 10 from the range of action of the cam 8. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 (Cancelled) wherein the irregular movements of the shaft 22 are stored in a spring 30 which controls a wheel 37 having pins 36 adapted to be released at regular intervals by the notches 41 of a continuously rotated disc 42. This Specification comprises also further modifications wherein the accumulated energy in the spring may be released at constant speed through the intermediary of pawl and ratchet gear, a slipping clutch or under the control of a differential mechanism ; the shaft 22 may also control, by means of a cam, the clutching of the planet and one sun wheel of a differential gear until the movement of the cam is wiped out by the gear. The Specification also describes a further arrangement wherein the irregular movements displace, through differential gearing, a contact disc which closes the circuit of a motor adapted to restore the disc through the differential gearing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
