Abstract
394,851. Conductors. HERKENBERG, K., Heckinghausen, Oberbarmen, Germany. Oct. 8, 1932, No. 28058. [Class 36.] To increase the extensibility of a conductor of the kind wherein conductive strands are braided around a rubber or other elastic core, the core is maintained in a stretched condition. whilst the strands are being braided around it. Braided insulating coverings may be applied to the conductor simultaneously with the braiding on of the conductive strands whilst the core is under tension. The conductive strands preferably comprise metal ribbons. wound on silk or cotton threads. A plurality of conductors may be braided together and furnished with terminals. Fig. 1 shows a conductor d formed by braiding strands f about an elastic core a which is drawn under tension from a bobbin b retarded by a braking device. The braking device may consist of a brake band k which is loaded with a weight i or may comprise a spring-loaded or weight-loaded roller which is pressed against a roller secured to the shaft of the bobbin b. In a modified arrangement, the braking device acts upon a separate. bobbin around which the core is passed. In another embodiment the take-off pulley' e which draws the core from the bobbin b is connected through a sprocket and chain drive either to the bobbin b or to a separate bobbin around which the core a passes, the drive being such that the peripheral speed of the pulley e is greater than that of the bobbin. Fig. 7 shows a ratchet mechanism for paying-out the core under tension. The core a, supplied from a bobbin 8, is passed around a roller 9 connected through gearing 10 .. 13 to a ratchet wheel 14. The ratchet wheel is rotated by a pawl 15 on a lever 17 which is operated by aconnecting rod 19 driven by a rotating disc 21... To permit adjustment of the throw of the lever 17, the ends of the rod 19 are adjustablein slots 18, 20 in the lever and disc respectively.-
