Abstract
Products for use in degreasing, desizing, goffing, and dressing textiles and in bleaching, dyeing, and mercerizing baths, are obtained by sulphonating a mixture of fatty substances and solvents therefor, and saponifying with alcoholic caustic alkali. The products may be mixed with soaps. The sulphonated mixture may be neutralized with soda or ammonia before saponification. Solvents specified are benzols, turpentines, acetones, amyl acetate, and phasecontaining chlorine. In an example, a solution of castor oil in benzol, turpentine, and amyl acetate is treated with 66 DEG B<\>ae,sulphuric acid; the product is allowed to stand, the lower layer removed, and the upper layer neutralized with a caustic soda and then saponified with a mixture of caustic potash with pure alcohol. Specification 1017/90, [Class 91, Oils &c.], is referred to.ALSO:Products for use in degreasing, desizing, goffing and dressing textiles and in bleaching, dyeing and mercerizing baths, are obtained by sulphonating a mixture of fatty substances and solvents therefor, and saponifying with alcoholic caustic alkali at a temperature preferably below 70 DEG C. The products may be added to soaps; 10 per cent is suitable. The sulphonated mixture may be neutralized with soda or ammonia before saponification. Solvents specified are benzols, turpentines, acetones, amyl acetate, and those containing chlorine. In an example, a solution of 52 lb. of castor oil in 15 lb. of benzol, 1,5 lb. of turpentine, and 0,5 lb. of amyl acetate is treated at 35 DEG C. or lower with 13-26 lb. of 66 DEG B<\>ae sulphuric acid; the product is allowed to stand, the lower layer removed, and the upper layer neutralized with caustic soda and then saponified at 60-70 DEG C. with a mixture of 18-19 lb. of caustic potash of 50 DEG B<\>ae with 13 lb. of pure alcohol. Specification 1017/90, [Class 91, Oils &c.], is referred to.
