Abstract
394,704. Crucible furnaces. WIGLEY, F. S. and WIGLEY, J., 222, County Chambers, Corporation Street, Birmingham. Jan. 1, 1932, No. 28. [Class 51 (ii).] In a crucible furnace having one or more main crucible chambers 4 in association with each of which is provided a preheating chamber 12, the latter is heated by conduction only, being arranged in the furnace body to one side of the horizontal flue 6 which leads rearwardly from the crucible chamber 4 to the transverse outlet flue 7. The invention is described as applied to a furnace having a plurality of crucible chambers 4, the several preheaters being disposed between the rearwardly extending flues 6. The chambers 12 may be constituted either by pits, as shown, or by separate receptacles of steel or cast iron built into the furnace structure. One or more of the chambers 12 may be employed for drying cores.
