Abstract

394,001. Cores for dynamo-electric machines. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A., DOWSON, R., WILLIS, D. C. P., Heaton Works, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and DOUGLAS, L. M., Turbinia Works, Wallsend-on-Tyne. Dec. 18, 1931, No. 35125. [Class 35.] The high-pressure end 2 of a turbine or other rotor is formed as a solid forging, and the lowpressure end is built up of juxtaposed discs 3, 4, 5 secured together and carrying rings of blades at about their zones of junction. The last disc 6 may carry blades in a groove 18. Adjacent discs may be secured together by a screwed joint 3c, Fig. 3, the threads of which may be interrupted. An annulus 13 of welded-in metal prevents displacement of the parts. The groove 11 is serrated as at 14, to take the blade roots. The position of the welded junction and the form of the serrations may be varied. In a modification the discs are formed with undercut engaging spigots, engagement being effected by shrinking-on. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the members 2.. 5 are secured together by bolts 24. After being screwed home, their heads are removed and they are then locked by spot welding 25. The spaces between the discs may be connected with the steam spaces by channels to equalize temperatures.
