Abstract
393,379. Valve modulating circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and LE ROSSIGNOL, R., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. Feb. 26, 1932, No. 5832. [Class 40 (v).] The plate current of a radio transmitter valve 8 is fed from a triode valve 2 which has both its plate and grid excited at a supersonic frequency, the microphone 7 being arranged to vary the phase relation between the grid and plate excitation. The supersonic frequency may be supplied through a transformer 1 to the plate circuit of the triode 2, and may be generated by an alternator or amplified by the valve 11. The grid of the triode 2 is also excited from the transformer 1, but the phase of the excitation is variably retarded by a choke coil 5, which is variably saturated by connecting it in the joint plate circuit of a pair of anode-bend rectifiers 6 having their grids connected in push-pull to the microphone 7. The valve 2, which is of the gas-filled or vacuum type, functions as a variable rectifier of the supersonic frequency, and the supersonic pulsations are smoothed out by the condenser 10.
