Abstract
392,254. Motor power plant. WHITE, W. A. and WHITE'S MARINE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Prince Consort Road, Hebburn-on-Tyne. Dec. 7, 1931, No. 33938. Divided on 383,782. and addition to 362,255. [Class 110 (iii).] A reciprocating steam or gas engine A which is geared to a propeller shaft d through gearing b, c, exhausts into turbines B, B<1>, placed one on each side and driving the same shaft d through gearing meshing with the pinion c. The axes of shafts f, d, f<1> may lie in the same plane and the axis of the engine shaft a may be above, below, or in alignment with the shaft d. The layout may be adopted for twinscrew engines. The turbines may transmit power through the same lay-shaft. A resilient coupling may be incorporated in the plant. When the reciprocating engine has two L.P. cylinders, each may exhaust to a separate turbine.
