Abstract
Cellulose acetate is plasticized by means of a trialkyl phosphate in the presence of water, and if desired, other plasticizers. In examples, cellulose acetate is worked up on hot rollers in the presence of water and (1) tripropyl phosphate, (2) tributyl phosphate and tripropyl phosphate, (3) tripropyl phosphate and dimethyl phthalate, or (4) dibutylpropyl phosphate until the water is expelled. In a further example, cellulose acetate, tripropyl phosphate, water, methylene chloride and alcohol are mixed together in a mixing apparatus without rolling. The products are particularly suitable for moulding by injection.ALSO:Cellulose acetate is plasticized by means of a trialkyl phosphate in the presence of water, and if desired, other plasticizers.
