Abstract
389,018. Plate heat - exchangers. ROSENBLAD, C. F., 3, Karlavõgen, Stockholm, and LINDEROTH, E. T., 25, Thulegatan, Sundsvall, both in Sweden. Sept. 14, 1932, No. 25542. [Class 64 (iii).] In a heat-exchanger comprising plates 1, 2 bent to form spiral channels, the plane sides of the apparatus are open and distance-pieces 22 are inserted and welded in place near the spiral edges of the plates, these pieces being shaped to restrict as little as possible the flow in the peripheral direction and also the free passage of cleaning means in the axial direction after removal of the sealing strips 24 which close the sides of the spiral channels. The outer ends of the channels are connected to tubes 9, 10 which are slotted for this purpose through the entire axial length of the apparatus, stays 21 being provided across these slots to absorb stresses. These tubes may also be flanged to strengthen them further and are connected together by stays 23. One of the passages ends at the centre in tube 15 which is slotted and strengthened with stays 21 in a similar manner to tubes 9, 10 and the other passage ends in the space surrounding tube 15 from which an outlet 18 is provided. The sealing strips may be retained in position by endplates 8 or as shown in Fig. 7 by ridges 32 formed on the plates 1, 2.
