Abstract

388,219. Vapour burners. JUNKER & RUH AKT.-GES., Siemensstrasse, GUHL, H., 5, Richard Wagnerstrasse, DORL, F. W. O., 6, Liebigstrasse, and GARGEL, K., 42, Bannwaldallee, all in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. March 10, 1932, No. 7198. [Class 75 (i).] Vapour - burning apparatus is provided with at least two interconnected compartments containing fuel, one compartment housing the end portion of the fuel supply pipe which is provided with an inlet aperture not greater than the outlet aperture of the vaporizer nozzle, the arrangement being such that the air-fuel mixture necessary for preheating the vaporizer is derived from the said compartment and after the consumption of a predetermined amount of air, an automatic change-over to the normal operation of the burner is effected without the actuation of a tap or like member. As shown in Fig. 5, fuel containers 13, 15 are arranged side by side and are connected by a pipe 17, the latter container being fitted with an air pump 14 and housing the lower U-shaped end 1 of the fuel supply pipe 3, provided near the U-bend with the inlet aperture 6. If the upper end of the pipe 3 is closed, as by a tap 9, and air is pumped intd the container 15, the level of the fuel in the container will be depressed to the level a-a and air will pass through the connecting pipe 17 into the container 13. If now the tap 9 be opened, air from the container will pass through the fuel in the U-bend and the fuel-air mixture will pass up the pipe 3, through the vaporizer 4 to the burner 12 disposed beneath the vaporizer. As the air is consumed the level of fuel in the container 15 will rise till it covers the end of the pipe 1. The remaining air pressure in the other container 13 will then serve to supply liquid fuel to the vaporizer. In modified forms, the container 15 is arranged above or below the container 13. The fuel supply pipe is provided with valve means adapted to cut off the supply of liquid fuel and prevent flooding should the tap be open and the burner not ignited. As shown in Fig. 9 the said means comprises a chamber 65 containing a float 66 with apertures 67 for the fuel and a valve cone 68. Alternatively the valve may comprise a ball operating in a chamber of slightly greater diameter. The supply of liquid fuel to the vaporizer and of vapour to the burner are simultaneously controlled by means of a conical valve 86 having a shaft 84 extending through the vaporizer and forming a needle valve 85 at the outlet nozzle 93.
