Abstract

386,181. Spray-producers. DE VILBISS CO., 300, Phillips Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. April 11, 1932, No. 10377. Convention date, April 10, 1931. [Class 69 (iii).] A spray head, for spraying the interior of small cylindrical articles, of the type comprising inner and outer nozzles for material and air and with provision at the rear of the discharge end of the nozzle for imparting a whirling motion to the air, is provided with an outer nozzle formed with a discharge lip curving gradually outwardly from the nozzle axis to direct the spray laterally; in addition, the inner nozzle may be provided with a tongue having a lateral spray-deflecting surface spaced concentrically with the lip. Fig. 1 shows a spray head for attachment to a spray gun such as is described in U.S.A. Specification 1,613,588. Material passes through an inner tube 3 to a nozzle 6 controlled by a valve 27 and air is supplied to an outer tube 8 terminating in a nozzle 7 furnished with a rounded lip 7<a>. Whirling movement is imparted to the air by spirals 12 in advance of radial discharge ports 20 for the material. The nozzle 6 is furnished with a tongue 13 having a deflecting flange 15. Ribs 14 may be provided on the member 13 to break up the material. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the nozzle 6 terminates in a rounded portion 15<a>. Fig. 5 shows a further modification for spraying the inner and bottom walls of a container and comprising a short head with an inner nozzle 32 formed with an axial discharge opening 35.
