Abstract

For the production of dressings fast to water, textile materials are treated simultaneously or in turn with a solution of starch or like amylaceous dressing agent and a water-soluble condensation product of acetone and formaldehyde, and the condensation product is then rendered insoluble by the action of an alkaline condensing agent, generally at a raised temperature. The materials may be treated with an alkaline starch solution containing the condensation product, or the latter may be applied to the materials after applying an alkaline starch solution, or the materials may be treated with a solution of starch and the condensation product and then treated with an alkaline condensing agent, or the materials may be starched and then treated with an alkaline solution of the condensation product; in each case, the temperature applied in the ordinary drying process is generally sufficient to render the condensation product insoluble. In the examples, (1) calico is impregnated with an aqueous solution containing potato flour, dimethylolacetone, potassium carbonate, and disodium phosphate, and then dried at 90 DEG C.; (2) calico is impregnated with a solution containing potato flour and sodium carbonate, dried, washed in an aqueous solution of dimethylolacetone, and dried again; (3) calico is impregnated with a solution of potato flour and monomethylolacetone, dried, passed through waterglass solution, and dried again; (4) calico is impregnated with potato starch solution, dried, passed through a bath containing dimethylolacetone and sodium phosphate, and dried again. Specifications 19087/09, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and 361,597 are referred to.ALSO:For the production of dressings fast to water, textile materials are treated simultaneously or in turn with a solution of starch or like amylaceous dressing agent and a water-soluble condensation product of acetone and formaldehyde, and the condensation product is then rendered insoluble by the action of an alkaline condensing agent, generally at a raised temperature.
