[Class 6 (ii).] A machine for trimming lawns and the like comprises a wheel having a disc fitting against it, a handle connected to the wheel axle and the disc, a transverse horizontal sole-plate with an offset part, and a rotary cutter coacting with the offset part, with or without another rotary cutter coacting with the other part of the soleplate to cut the margin of the lawn. The internally-toothed driving and travelling wheel 1 engages with a pinion 10 on the shaft 11 of the rotary cutter 2, the shaft 11 being carried by an eccentric bearing on the stationary disc 12 which is secured to the operating handle 3 and carries the wheel axle 13. The handle 3 is connected to the wheel axle 13 by a strap 16 and carries a slotted bar 19 on which a laterally projecting supporting roller is adjustably mounted. The sole-plate 8 is extended rearwardly by semi-circular and semi-conical guard plates 21, 22, a vertical guard plate 23 being removably attached to the guard plate 22. The sole-plate 8 is bent as shown and adjustably connected to the disc 12 and guard plate 23, the outer part 28 forming a supporting skid. The offset part 7 may be at right-angles to the part 8. The cutter 2 is adjustably mounted on the spindle 11 which may also carry a cutter 31 to coact with the horizontal part of the soleplate 8. All the cutter blades are overhung with their cutting-edges inclined to the axis of rotation. They may be made from triangular sheets of metal one corner of each of which is bent and connected to a carrying spider. They may be dished or corrugated. A cutter may be formed from a metal disc by cutting out sections 33, Fig. 5, making radial cuts 35, and bending triangular pieces outwardly about lines 38.
