[Class 35.] A differential gear for connecting the parallel shafts M, M<1> of two motors to a single driven shaft 5 comprises a casing 6 carrying planet gears 7, 8 meshing with sun gears 1, 2 on telescoping shafts 9, 10 connected by gear pairs 11, 12 to the shafts M<1>, M respectively. Suitable detents 4, 3 'prevent the shaft 9 or the shaft 10 from turning backwards, when the corresponding motor ceases to drive leaving the other operative. The motors may be of equal or unequal powers. In the differential train, spur gearing can replace the bevel gearing shown. By using skew gearing in the pairs 11, 12, the shafts M, M<1> may be arranged, obliquely. An arrangement is described in which the shafts M, M<1> are in line projecting from opposite ends of the casing 6 which carries a bevel wheel meshing with a pinion on the single driven shaft 5, which is perpendicular to the motor shafts. By combining such trains, a larger number of motors may be caused to drive the same shaft.
