Abstract

384,023. Brakes. SKERRETT, H. N., 24, Temple Row, Birmingham.-(Timken- Detroit Axle Co. ; 100, Clark Avenue, Detroit, U.S.A.) Oct. 8, 1931, No. 27929. [Class 103 (i).] Duplex brakes for vehicles having two pairs of pivotally mounted brake members 1, 2, Fig. 2, in a drum comprise means for adjusting the lever 5 on each cam shaft 4 of each pair of brake members, the levers 4 being on each side of the wheel axle and connected by an elongatable link 6, 7 adapted to spread the levers apart to operate both pairs of brake members. Each lever 5 is secured to a shaft 4 by a split sleeve 11, Fig. 4, clamped by a bolt 13 provided with a worm thread 17 meshing with worm teeth on a collar 9 fixed to the shaft 4. To adjust the ]ever on the shaft nuts 15, 16 are loosened and the bolt turned. The link 6, 7, Fig. 2, comprises a piston and cylinder adapted to be spread apart by fluid pressure as described in Specification 383,369 and one lever is connected to a rod 8 adapted to be manipulated by the operator.
