Abstract
383,702. Marking numbers on kinematograph films. VINTEN, W., North Circular Road, Cricklewood, London. Sept. 30, 1931, No. 27225. [Class 98 (ii).] Apparatus for marking numbers similar indicia on the margins of kinematograph films photographically comprises a counter dial the image from which is maintained in focus on the moving film during the exposure. In the form shown the film passes over and drives a hollow drum 10 having sprocket teeth 11, mounted for rotation on a shaft 13 and a fixed endplate 17, bearing a bevel wheel 28. A counter 26 is carried on the inside of the drum and is rotated by a bevel wheel 27 meshing with the wheel 28. A lamp 31 is also mounted inside the drum and illuminates the numbers on the dial of the counter during the exposure, the time during which the lamp is illuminated being determined by contact pieces 33 on the drum co-operating with fixed contact pieces 32. The image is focused on the margin of the film by a lens system 30 through an opening 29. The film is held in contact with the sprocket drum by a guide 20 during the exposure. To reset the dial of the counter the bevel wheel 28 is carried by a shaft 34 bearing a pinion 35 meshing with a wheel 36 normally locked but capable of rotation by a handle 37 when released.
