Abstract

383,447. Drying materials in long lengths. BUTHION, H., 50, Cours de la Liberte, Lyons, France. Dec. 10, 1931, No. 34289. Convention date, June 17. [Class 34 (i).] To compensate for shrinkage in a web of fabric a, b being dried by passage round a rotary perforated drum through which air is passed outwardly or inwardly, the fabric is fed to the drum at a rate exceeding the rate at which it leaves the drum. The rate may be controlled by a split pulley adjusted by a nut. A stationary shield 32 overlaps and masks the portion of the drum between the points where the web runs on to, and off, the drum. Partitions adjustable by screws 11 are provided within the drum to control its effective width. The fan conduits, which include a heater, are connected to the interior of the drum and to the chamber 1 outside the drum, part of the air in circulation being continuously discharged. As shown in the Figure, two drums may be operated in series.
