Abstract

381,889. Steam boiler water-tubes. GIBSON, J. L., 184, Bath Avenue, Long Branch, New Jersey, U.S.A. May 11, 1932, No. 13594. [Class 64 (iii).] A screw-shaped device for imparting a rotary motion to the water in a boiler tube 5 is made in sections which, after insertion in the tube, are jointly expanded to clamp the edges of the device against the inner surface of the tube. Two or more screw sections 7 held together by spring rings 14 engaging in recesses 13 are formed with central longitudinal ribs 8 having grooves forming, when the sections are assembled, an axial passage for the reception of a securing bolt. The bolt has a square tapering head 16 and is engaged at the other end by a nut with a conical extension 18 seating in the correspondingly shaped end of the axial passage. Upon tightening the, nut, the sections are forced apart, opening the spring rings and pressing projections 10 on the sections against the tube wall.
