[Class 135.] A float-operated ball valve, for steam traps and water cisterns, comprises a movable valveoperating member directly connected to a reciprocating float, and a fixed seating member, one of said members being formed as a cage for one or more ball closure members which are adapted to close down upon their seatings, solely by fluid action, the operating means passing out of contact with the ball or balls which are thereby left independent of any rocking movement of the float. As applied to a steam trap, the ball valve a, Fig. 1, is enclosed in a cage b, c, d attached directly to the float (not shown) so that when the float rises the ball valve a is lifted from the seating f for the discharge of the condensate, as shown by the arrows. In a variant for a supply valve for cisterns, the ball valve a<1>, Fig. 7, is caged in a fixed member g<1> (the water inlet passage) and is pushed downwards away from its seating by a pin k attached to a cylindrical member d<1> directly connected to the float. In a further form, a number of ball valves a<2>, Fig. 8, are disposed in cages opening to an annular passage connected to the water inlet g<2>. The ball valves a<2> are pushed outwardly from their seatings by a conical-shaped member k<1> connected by a rod u directly to the float (not shown).
