Abstract

381,227. Electric horns. AUSTIN, .L. J. F., Lichfield Chambers, Upper Priory, Birmingham. July 3, 1931, Nos. 19198 and 29450. [Class 40 (iv).] A tone plate connected to the diaphragm of an electrically-operated horn is provided with additional resilient suspension means. In one form, the resilient support is provided by a slotted ring j, r, Fig. 2, the portion j is clamped to the casing and the tone plate m is connected by rivets k and washers r<1> to two diametrically opposed holes in the part r. The slotted ring may be dished so that when the tone plate is connected thereto it tensions the diaphragm. The diaphragm and tone plate are protected by a cover-plate o. The slotted ring may be cut from a flat metal disc about À020 inch thick. In a modification, the tone plate and resilient support are formed as a single slotted disc unit j, R, Fig. 5 ; in this case the edge j is clamped, the central portion R is connected to the centre of the diaphragm and an annular cover ring o is employed. The diaphragm is operated by a striker b carried by an armature c mounted on a spring e. The mechanism is held in a casing f by spring clips g. The first Provisional Specification describes a resilient support formed by projecting lugs on a clamping-ring. The tone plate may be non-metallic and the diaphragm may be positively driven.
