Abstract

380,857. Lubricating ; cooling pistons. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS DIESEL, Stockholm. June 29, 1931, No. 18740. Convention date, July 3, 1930. [Class 12 (ii).] Lubricant is supplied to cooling passages 9, 10, 11, Figs. 1 and 2, in the piston of an internalcombustion engine from a passage 1 in the connecting-rod 2 through passages 6, 7 in the gudgeon pin 8 which are in constant communication through openings 4 in the sides of the bush 5 with passages 3 branching from the passage' 1. Lubricant passes to lubricating grooves 13 in the surface of the bush through ducts 12. Where a crosshead is provided, lubricant passes to the passages in the piston through a passage 38, Fig. 5, in the piston-rod 35 communicating through passages 34, 37 with passages 31, 33 in the crosshead pin 32 which are in constant communication through openings 29, Fig. 6, in the sides of the bushes 30 with passages 28 branching from passages 27 in the connecting-rod 26. The lubricant is discharged from the piston passages through a pipe 39 arranged in the rod 35. Lubricating ducts 40 are formed in the bushes 30.
