Abstract
380,067. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ADAMCIKAS, M. and MASSERA, G., Astor House, Aldwych, London. April 7, 1931, No. 10196. [Class 35.] In a machine having an axial-flow propellertype fan mounted on the shaft, the air is re-directed radially by stationary streamlined partitions located in a deflecting nozzle at the fan outlet. In the form shown, stationary guide vanes 3 and streamline partitions 4, 5 are arranged in the nozzle formed by the rotating deflector 6 and guide 8 at the outlet of the fan 1. Some of the air flows round the stator end windings and core whilst some flows along the shaft and through radial ducts in the rotor core. Streamlined partitions may also be arranged at the fan inlet. As an alternative, the direction of flow may be reversed, the air - being driven into the outlet at the ends of the machine after entering at the centre and passing round the stator ; in this case a separate air inlet is provided for cooling air for the rotor which passes through the fan hub and along the shaft. The guide vanes and partitions may be of the type described in Specifications 369,901 and 380,068, [Group XXVIII], respectively, and the fan may be of the type described in Specifications 303,452 and 312,748, [both in Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.].
