Abstract
379,096. Centrifugal separators. HOPKINSONS, Ltd., and HOPKINSON R. A., Britannia Works, Huddersfield. Aug. 27, 1931, No. 24100. [Class 23.] A centrifugal separator has a cover, clamped when shut down, by an eccentric hinge pin and by swivel clamps on the side opposite to the pin. The cover a is a casting with passages b, c, d for the inflow of the liquid to be centrifuged, the outflow of the clean liquid, and the overflow respectively. The cover is supported on the fixed base e by a pin f the portion f<1> of which within the cover is eccentric to the remainder. After the cover is closed down, the clamps h, i are rotated into position and screwed down. The pin f is then turned by means of the handle g also to apply pressure to the closure. The handle k and nut j can then be rotated to lock the pin f against movement. A hinged depending catch p has a slot r to engage a projecting lip s on the base to hold the cover in its raised position. The inflow passage m in the base is near the hinge pin f and the passages n, o, for the clean liquid discharge and the overflow, are arranged near the swivel clamps i, h so that effective joints are obtained.
