Abstract
378,649. Laundry presses. TULLIS, Ltd., D. & J. and JACK, W., Kilbowie Iron Works, Clydebank, Aug. 20, 1931, No. 23435. [Class 138 (ii).] In a laundry press which is closed by fluid pressure acting on a piston 13 working in a cylinder 12 and opened, on release of the fluid pressure, by a spring 14, and wherein the cylinder and piston function as a dashpot tending to resist movement of the press head as the latter approaches the end of its opening movement, the exhaust port 15 of the cylinder, which communicates with atmosphere through a pipe 21 and manually-operated valve 20, is arranged to be masked by the piston as the latter approaches the inner end of the cylinder, thereby trapping a quantity of pressure fluid in the cylinder which can then escape only through a restricted port 16 in a spring-pressed non-return valve 17 interposed in the pressure fluid supply pipe between the manually controlled supply valve 19 and the cylinder.
