Abstract

378,098. Kinematograph projectors. KINGSTON, A. W.. 9, Newman Street, and BOOTH, M. O., HAWORTH- 15, Great Stanhope Street, Mayfair, both in London. Feb. 11, 1931, No. 4338. [Class 97 (i).] Apparatus for projecting separate colourrecord images simultaneously through separate lenses, and through filters in a rotating filtercarrier, each image being projected through each lens in turn, is adapted for monochrome projection by making the filter-carrier movable to a position wholly clear of the beam from one lens, and providing masking means for the other lenses ; adjustments of the optical system may also be made, and connections enabling all the changes to be made simultaneously may be provided. As shown, mirrors 8, 10 reflect the beam from the lamp to a triple gate 12, and to prisms and lenses (not shown), arranged one above the other. When colour-record images are being projected, the beam passes through a cylindrical lens 14 to ensure proper illumination of the gate, and through filters 18, 20, 22 so arranged in a carrier 16 that each image is projected by each lens in turn through a filter of appropriate colour. The carrier 16 is shown raised out of operative position, and is mounted for such movement on an arm 28 secured to a spindle 26 and rotatable therewith by a handle 30 ; an arm 46, also secured to the spindle 26, is connected by a link 44 to a plate 42 movable horizontally to mask the uppermost and lowermost gate apertures when the carrier 16 is raised. A second arm 50 is secured to the spindle 26 and is connected by a link 52 to a lever 54 which is pivoted at 56, and engages between rollers 38 on a frame 48 to raise the frame simultaneously with the carrier 16 ; the frame 48 carries the cylindrical len$14, and a converging lens 24, and when raised moves the lens 24 into the beam, in place of the lens 14 to produce a more concentrated light patch on the film. The carrier 16, when lowered is rotated by the engagement of a pin 40 in a slot in a disc 38 on a spindle 34 driven through a pinion 36.
