[Class 44.] A " panic-bolt " fastening for theatre &c. doors has means for holding the bolts withdrawn until the door is closed, whereupon the bolts are automatically shot. One arm 18a of a lever 18 carrying the usual push-bar engages between projections 7d, 7e on a sliding member 7, the upper end of which has lugs 7a to which the upper bolt 10 is connected, whilst the lower end is coupled through a pivoted member 9 with a sliding member 8 to lugs 8a of which the lower bolt 10 is connected. The bolts are thus withdrawn simultaneously bv pushing the bar, and are shot simultaneously by a spring 11 acting on member 7. The bolts can be released from outside the door by a key inserted in a key-hole 6b, rotated anticlockwise to pass levers 13 and then rotated clockwise to bear on the ends of the levers and slide member 7, the levers being mounted on the slide. The arm 18b of lever 18 carries a gravity-operated pivoted catch 19 adapted to engage a projection 15b fixed on the casing 15 and hold the lever as shown in Fig. 2, with the bolts withdrawn. The catch is moved out of engagement to release the bolts by upward movement of a pin 20a extending through a slot in the casing and carried by a lever 20 pivoted inside the casing. A sliding rod 21 biased by a spring 22 and with a flange 21b and rounded end 21c which projects from the edge of the open door carries a pin 21a engaging a slot in lever 20. When the door is closed the rod 21 is moved inwards, raising lever 20 and releasing the bolts, which are then shot by spring 11.
