Abstract
376,418. Spray-producers. FOSTER, F. H. and HASLAM & NEWTON, Ltd., Union Foundry, Derby. May 14, 1931, No. 14262. [Class 69 (iii).] Several rows of nozzles imparting a rapid swirling motion to the spray are arranged in staggered formation in a casing and provide spray curtains over the whole area inside the casing. Each nozzle comprises a body b<1>, and an end cover e having volute-like vanes f which contact with the divergent end portion d of the nozzle. Helices. g in the body portion together with the vanes f impart a swirling motion to the spray which issues at right-angles: to the nozzle axis. The cover is retained in position by a spring-pressed washer i on a bolt g<1> which passes freely through the cover, the arrangement permitting a slight movement from the body portion without compressing the spring, and a further movement to clear the nozzle should an obstruction effect an increased pressure within the body. In a modification the nozzle includes a rotor on which is mounted a plate replacing the cover e.
