Abstract

A rubber composition for paving or like purposes comprises an oil-treated aggregate of stone or granite chippings, small stones or gravel combined with crushed waste rubber, tyre scrap or the like, which may also be oil-treated, and a binder comprising rubber latex with or without bitumen. The composition may also include sulphur for vulcanizing and absorbent earthy or cindery material, e.g. breeze, cinders, brick dust and ground slate. The oil used for the pretreatment of the material is any light oil having a solvent or plastifying action on rubber, such as naphtha, benzene, and petrol. The bitumen, when used, may be mixed as an emulsion with the latex or may be applied as a coating to the stone particles.
