Abstract
375,181. Hatters' lathes. TURNER, A., White House Works, Denton, Lancashire. Oct. 30, 1931, No. 30079. [Class 63.] Relates to hatters' lathes of the kind wherein the hat block spindle a is j ournalled in a larger spindle b and provided at its lower end with gearing to cause the block to have a gyratory as well as a rotary movement, and consists in means for connecting and disconnecting the larger spindle b with a friction drive comprising cam-like projections o on one of the bearings of the spindle, co-operating with a handle on a loose collar n surrounding the spindle. The spindle carries a friction wheel i normally engaging a drum on a driving shaft k. On sliding the handle up the slope o, the spindle is raised and the friction drive disconnected. The spindle a rotates with an internally-toothed wheel # gearing with a fixed pinion g.
