Abstract
Aqueous emulsions of tars or tar products are obtained by incorporating petroleum bitumen, natural asphalt or mixtures thereof and substances of acidic character, such as fatty acid pitches, e.g. stearic pitch, Montan wax, or wax acids with the tars &c. and stirring the resulting mixture into water containing an emulsifying agent or agents dissolved therein. Suitable emulsifying agents include alkali salts of fatty acids, resin acids, wax acids, sulpho-acids, and amino-carboxylic acids. The solution is kept alkaline. Detailed examples are given.
