Abstract
Motor spirit is made less liable to knock and is coloured by addition of a metal compound of an organic compound of the formula <FORM:0370287/III/1> in which X is an ,OH or ,NH2 group, and R is an organic group such as an alkyl or aryl group or the rest of a cyclic radicle of which the C = O group and the carbon of the oxy - methylene or amino - methylene group linked up to the C = O group form a part. The copper or ferric compound of oxymethylene camphor, and the copper compound of aminomethylene-acetone or of oxymethylene-acetophenone are specified. Other antiknocking agents and substances such as halogen compounds preventing deposition of metal on the valves &c. may also be added. In an example, the copper salt of oxymethylene camphor is added to benzine until the metal content is 0,05-0,10 per cent.
