Abstract

369,616. Colour photography. GASPAR, B., 1, Eminescu, Temesvar, Roumania. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28428. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1929. [Class 98 (ii).] In a process of colour photography, two or more layers of emulsion, sensitized to different colours are superposed on a support, exposed and developed and the images converted into a mordant and dyed with a single dye. The surface layer is then decoloured and recoloured with a different colour. This may be effected by redyeing the layer or by treating the product of decolouring with a reagent generating a different colour, e.g. fuchsine may be decoloured with nitrous acid and coupled with resorcin giving a yellow colour. The recolouration may also be carried out by acting on the mordant with a colour forming agent. For example, the silver image is converted into lead ferrocyanide and dyed with rhodamine S. The surface layer is then decoloured and the mordant converted into lead chromate. The whole is then transferred to a fresh carrier with the former underneath layer on top and this layer is decoloured and the mordant converted into Prussian Blue by means of a ferric salt. To enable the reactions to be controlled, the outside layers are made thin relatively to the inner layer, control marks produced by exposure to areas of the primary colours are produced on the edge of the film and stop baths are employed to cause the cessation of the action when it has extended to the desired depth. For example, if a dye is decoloured with a reducing agent, the action may be stopped by immersion in an oxidizing bath. Other methods of colouring the decoloured surface layer, e.g. by toning the silver image present or by using for decolouring agents producing a differential hardening and dyeing the unhardened parts of layer, may be used.
