Abstract

<PICT:0368668/IV/1> Cloth to be treated in a dye jigger passes from a batch roller 10 under a roller 16 in the dye liquor, which roller exerts little or no pull on the fabric and which by an up-and-down movement imparted to it or allowed by the degree of tension in the fabric operates a control mechanism through an adjustable gear whereby the speeds of paying out and taking up the fabric by the other batch roller 11 are adjusted and regulated. The roller 16 is so p arranged that its weight when immersed in the liquor is practically nil, and is carried in bearings 17 in slides 18. The bearings 17 are connected by rods 19 to a lever 20 which is fastened to a shaft 21. The movement of the roller 16 caused by any expansion or contraction of the cloth or any difference in surface speed of the rollers 10, 11, moves the rod 19 which in turn will move the shaft 21, the lever 23 and the rod 24, which being connected to the radial bracket 27 will cause this to move and through this one side of a double pawl 33 will engage a ratchet wheel in one direction or the other and in turning it will alter the variable speed shafts of the gears driving the rollers 10, 11. A rod 50 is provided for reversing the direction of the machine. On the end of one regulating shaft is keyed a spur-wheel which engages with a spurwheel 53 on a shaft 54 to which is keyed an indicator 55 on a disc 56, which indicator is vertical when the two rollers are running at the same surface speed. In a modification the roller 16 moves a spring-controlled swinging member to bring a friction disc in contact with one or other of two rotating discs, and the resulting rotation of the friction disc rotates the regulating shaft of the gear thus correcting the speed of travel.
