Abstract
367,961. Cutting cardboard tubes. PA TON, G. C. and PATON, J. S., Binns Road, Old Swan, Liverpool. Dec. 16, 1930, No. 37863. [Class 31 (i).] Cutting cylinders transversely and obliquely.-In a machine for cutting cardboard tubes into lengths, a mandrel 8 and a cam drum 14 are rotated from pulleys. The cam reciprocates, along guides 7, a cradle formed of connected crossheads 38, 12. The blanks are fed to the cradle by escapement fingers 41, 43. In operation, on release of the fingers 41 by engagement of parts 46, 47, the tube drops into the cradle. A bowl 22 is then in the groove 15c of the cam 14. The cradle is reciprocated to place the tube on the mandrel and rotary knives 27 are swung about a shaft 29 to sever the tube by a cam 32. A stop 54 engages and positions an ejector 37 and the severed tube is stripped from the mandrel on the backward movement of the cradle. In a modification a pair of mandrels are used. Geared fingers 23 on the cam track retain the bowl in the groove.
