367,953. Centrifugal casting. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.-(Hundt & Weber, Ges.; Geiswied, Siegen, Westphalia, Germany.) Dec. 8, 1930, No. 37012. [Class 83 (i).] Casting-machines ; metal-pouring ; moulds ; cores and core-bars ; castings, extracting.-Cores 9 are used in centrifugal moulds 2 to produce hollow bodies having cavities in addition to and separate from those produced by the centrifugal action. The cores may be of clay carried on supports 8 or 81 preferably hollow for venting and if necessary for removal of the core material by water or air. The cores may be wholly or partly of metal 14, Fig. 3. The closure 4, Fig. 2, may have a number of holes 12 for mounting cores, those not in use being closed by plugs. If desired two moulds 37, Fig. 6, may be journalled in a frame 34 which can be turned by hand or power about pivots 33 and then clamped, in order that the mould-axis may be vertical, horizontal, or inclined. The moulds are driven from a shaft 44 on a fixed frame 32 through variable-speed, friction gear 43, 42 and friction, bevel gear 40, 39, 38 of which the wheels 39 can be moved for adjustment or to stop the corresponding mould which is brought to rest by a brake 49. One mould may be prepared while the other is in use. The moulds may be cooled by air or water pipes 52. The bottom of the mould may have a distributing cone 53, Fig. 9, which may be grooved.
