Abstract

366,750. Force - feed lubricating. HARRISON, T. D., DREW, W., and EDGE, M. T., Albion Iron Works, Leigh, Lancashire. Feb. 28,1931, No. 6280. [Class 12 (iii).] A mowing or reaping machine is provided with an oil reservoir from which oil is forced by a pump driven by the machine to the bearings, whence excess returns to the reservoir. In a mowing machine comprising a wheel shaft 4 mounted in bearings 7, 7a and connected through a gear-box 10 to a crank shaft (not shown) which drives the knife-bar and which is mounted in bearings 9, the oil reservoir 11 is secured on the underside of the box 10 and the pump 13, mounted in the reservoir, is driven by means of a chain 24 from a sprocket wheel 25 on the lay shaft 26. The pump supplies oil to the top of the bearings 7, 7a, 9 through piping 14, 15, 17 .. 20, and excess oil returns from the bottom of the bearings to the reservoir through pipes 16, 21, 22, 23. Oil is supplied to the gear box through a normallyclosed aperture in the cover 27.
