365,358. Aircraft framework. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Ragsdale, E. J. W. ; Curren Terrace, Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4645. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1930. [Class 4.] A joint 'construction comprising a hollow member 13, Fig. 1, open at one side and having outwardly turned edge flanges 14, 15 and an angular gusset 11 having its apex within the hollow member and its sides, to which struts 12 are adapted to be connected, secured to the flanges 14, 15, includes one or more closing members 16, Figs. 3 and 5, reinforcing the member 13 substantially throughout its length and secured not only to the flanges 14, 15 of the member 13 but also to the inner faces of the gusset 11. Gusset 11 is fitted with flanged reinforcing plates 23, Fig. 5, to which struts may be secured. Struts 12 are of open tubular construction flattened at their ends to embrace walls 21, 22 of gusset 11 or the plates 23. A part 26 of the struts may be left unflattened to form a rib. Closing members may be applied to the open sides of the struts. All members may be of light gauge rustless alloy steel and be electrically spot welded together.
