Abstract
365,199. Extracting aluminium. DEL RIO, R. G., 44, Gran Via, Bilbao, Spain. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31584. [Class 82 (i).] A method of extracting aluminium from aluminium silicates or clays comprises heating the silicate or clay with sodium chloride, potassium ferrocyanide, and hydrochloric acid or their chemical equivalents in a reducing atmosphere. The charge is introduced into an iron crucible 9 having a plug of fusible material at the base, and is heated to 800-900‹ C. in a furnace 1 so as to be accessible to reducing gases. Molten aluminium issues through an outflow tube 4 and is collected in a vessel 7. If desired the tube 4 may be bent and divided beyond the bend into two branches, one for the aluminium and the other for dust and ash.
