361,816. Refrigerating. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. May 21, 1931, No. 15074. Convention date, Sept. 4, 1930. [Class 29.] Compression machines.-A reciprocating-piston pump 8 lubricated only by the liquefied refrigerant is employed for removing air and uncondensed gases from enclosed systems having a centrifugal compressor 2. The pump is driven by gearing 7 enclosed in the bearing box 6 of the compressor or of its driving means, this box being outside the enclosed machine and lubricated with oil. The pump is located in the evaporator space 4, which is separated by a partition 19 from the condenser space 3, and the liquefied refrigerant used as lubricant flows under pressure through a pipe 18. The pump has inlet ports controlled by the piston itself and a delivery valve 17 discharging into a coil 11, where refrigerant vapour is condensed. The condensate from the coil collects in a reservoir having a float valve 12 discharging into the evaporator, and the uncondensed gases escape through a pipe 14 extending into a mercury seal 15. An expansion valve 5 is situated at the bottom of the partition 19.
