Abstract
361,384. Vehicle door fastenings. ORTEGA, F. R., 3, Lope de Rueda Street, Madrid. May 21, 1930, No. 15639. [Class 44.] To guard against opening doors of motor vehicles in motion, means are provided under control of the driver and operable by the brake lever or by a separate lever, &c. a tell-tale indicator being provided on the dashboard. In one form the device operates to prevent withdrawal of an ordinary latch-bolt d, Fig. 1, by the usual inside handle a<11> and comprises a spring-biased sliding member c controlled by wire transmission d. A sliding member b<11> connected with handle a<11> by link b<1> and lever b is projected from the edge of the door on withdrawal of bolt a. In its raised position member c lies in the path of member b<11> and prevents its sliding movement, so preventing withdrawal of bolt a. Member c is lowered to free member b<11> on application of the brakes. Member c also serves to make and break a circuit in which a lamp &c. onthe dashboard is included. In another form, Fig. 4, the device acts as an independent fastening and comprises a member l pivoted at m in a casing n and rocked into engagement with a keeper o by a spring p. Release is effected by wire &c. transmission t. In its locked position, the nose l<11> of member l operates a spring contact v to break the circuit of the lamp &c. indicator, so that in this form unauthorized opening of the door is also indicated to the driver.
