Abstract
In the manufacture of hydrogen by the ironwater vapour reaction, the gases resulting from the reduction of the iron oxide by coke-oven gas or towns gas, and containing water vapour, is passed through a retort containing coke externally heated to about 1200 DEG C., whereby the residual gas is transformed into a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen.
