Abstract

Disazo dyes are obtained by coupling a tetrazotized diaminoditolylmethanedisulphonic acid with two molecular proportions of a naphtholmonosulphonic acid or of an arylpyrazolonesulphonic acid. The products give on wool dyeings fast to fulling and to sulphur and printings fast to water, to ammonia, and to light. The following examples are specified. (1) The dyestuff 3 : 31-diamino-4 : 41dimethyldiphenylmethanedisulphonic acid \sQ 1 : 4 naphtholsulphonic acid (2 mols.) gives red dyeings and printings of good fastness on wool; the dyestuff 4 : 41 - diamino - 3 : 31 - dimethyldiphenylmethane-di sulphonic acid \sQ 1 : 4 - naphtholsulphonic acid (2 mols.) is similar. (2) The dyestuff 4 : 41-diamino2 : 21 - dimethyldiphenylmethanedisulphonic acid \sQ 1-(41-sulpho) phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone (2 mols.) gives pure yellow dyeings and printings of good fastness on wool; the dyestuff 4 : 41-diamino2 : 21 - dimethyldiphenylmethanedisulphonic acid \sQ 1-(41-methyl-21-sulpho) phenyl - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone gives more greenish yellow tints. Specifications 9968/10 and 114,339, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use as tetrazo component of any diaminodiphenylmethanedisulphonic acid or a derivative thereof. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. The disulphonic acids of 3 : 31-diamino-4 : 41-dimethyldiphenylmethane and 4 : 41-diamino-2 : 21-dimethyldiphenylmethane are obtained by direct sulphonation of the parent amines.
