Abstract
359,094. Transformers. LONDON ELECTRIC WIRE CO. & SMITHS, Ltd. and BOYD, W. F., 7, Playhouse Yard, Golden Lane, London. Aug. 8, 1930, No. 23845. [Class 38 (ii).] In transformer units for wireless receiving apparatus of the type in which, when changing to a lower wavelength band, the primary and secondary windings of high inductance value are shunted by primary and secondary windings of low inductance value by means of a switch, the windings are carried by formers within a screen casing which also contains the switch mechanism operated from the exterior. An inductance coil unit, and transformer unit contained in compartments 4, 5 respectively, Fig. 3, formed by a metallic partition 6 in a metal box 2. Switches S .. S4 are closed by cams 16 mounted on a spindle 15, and rotated by a knob 17 which may be attached to either end of the spindle. The amount of rotation is limited by stops 20. The ends of the windings are connected to eyelets attached to the formers, the eyelets having lugs 9 passed through the base, and bent over at 10 to allow for soldering connections. When the switches S3, S4, Fig. 2, are closed the primary and secondary windings L4, L5 respectively, which are of high inductance value, are shunted by primary and secondary windings L6, L7 of low inductance value, a reaction coil L2 being used with one or the other of the sets of windings.
