Abstract

Anthraquinone naphthacridone derivatives.-Anthraquinone-1 : 2 : 11 : 21-naphthacridone (Caledon Red BN) is nitrated by means of nitric acid, alone or in the presence of an organic medium, to give di- or poly-nitro-compounds, the products are reduced and acylated in the customary manner. As acylating agent benzoyl chloride is exemplified and sodium sulphide is used to reduce the dinitro compound obtained by the action of concentrated nitric acid on the acridone.
