Abstract

A mixture of gasolene, lubricating oil or other petroleum distillate and an organic dyestuff which tends to separate from such oils, is stabilized by addition of a water-insoluble soap. Fatty or resinous soaps of zinc, calcium, magnesium or aluminium may be used. In the case of basic organic dye such as spirit blue (a phenylated rosaniline), an organic acid such as oleic, stearic, or benzoic acid may be added. 1 part of stearic acid, 1 part of spirit blue and 2 parts aluminium stearate are dissolved in a little benzol and 1 part of the benzol solution added to 100,000 parts of gasolene. Spirit blue may be replaced by arylated rosanilines, triphenyl methanes, indulines, indazines, nigrosines, rhodamines or phthaleins. Other soluble dyes, e.g. anthraquinones, may be added to the treated gasolene &c. Fluorescent oils may be made by using acridine dyes.
