Abstract

<PICT:0356427/IV/1> In the preparation by the wet spinning process of artificial silk of fine titre and high tensile strength, two drawing rollers are used, the peripheral speed of the first being less than the discharge velocity of the spinning solution from the nozzle so that a draught of less than unity in obtained, whilst the peripheral speed of the second is greater than that of the first. The total draught, i.e. the ratio of the peripheral speed of the second roller to the discharge velocity at the nozzle may even be less than unity while observing the above conditions. In an example, unripened viscose is spun into a bath containing sulphuric acid and carbazoletetrasulphonic acid such that the p draught between the nozzle 1 and the first roller 4 is 0,4, and between the first roller 4 and the second roller 5 is 2,0; the total draught is therefore 0,8. The thread may be guided in its passage over the rollers by the arms a, b and c, and collected on a spool 7.
