Abstract

356,328. Water tube steam boilers. RIEKIE, J., 51, Tressillian Road, Brockley, London. June 16, 1930, No. 18414. [Class 123 (ii).] Steam boilers of instantaneous type comprise a number of groups of tubular superheater e l e - ments 5 arranged in a slow combustion stove and heated to 800‹ F., feedwater being injected intermittently and flashed into steam near the inlets at such intervals into any particular element that the temperature is restored before a further injection. In the form shown, headers 7 supply each group of three coils which deliver into interconnected steam headers 9 and a final or storage coil 11 is located in the centre of the oven. Water is supplied through pipes 14 to the headers 7 in succession from a distributer. In a modification for a locomotive a two-sectioned oven containing separate groups of serpentine elements is provided, the outlet headers of one section being connected to a single outlet header for the other and a large diameter steam storing tube of serpentine form arranged in the middle of the second section delivers the steam to the engine.
