Abstract
356,095. Bearings. AKTIEBOLAGET NOMY, 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm. April 15, 1931, No. 11189. Convention date, April 22, 1930. [Class 12 (i).] Bearing blocks and rolling members such as balls or rollers are arranged between the relatively movable elements of a bearing. Preferably the rolling members support the load when the elements are stationary or moving slowly and the blocks support substantially all the load during normal operation of the bearing. As shown two rows of blocks 2 supported by a ring 5 fixed to a shaft 4 have a spherical surface to co-operate with a bearing surface on a ring 3. Between the rows of blocks is a row of bearing rollers 7, a groove on the ring 5 serving as the inner race track. In a modification the periphery of the ring 5 is double conical so that the blocks 2 pivot about an axis inclined to the axis of the shaft. In another modification a single row of blocks only are used, a row of rolling members being arranged on each side thereof. If two rows of blocks are used they may be arranged in staggered formation. The invention may be applied to axial thrust bearings of the block type and to shafts which rotate in both directions. The blocks may be arranged so that in operation they are stationary.
