Abstract

354,804. Lathes. SCHIESS-DEFRIES AKT.-GES., 114, K÷lnerstrasse, D³sseldorf, Germany. April 9, 1930, No. 11326. Convention date, April 9, 1929. [Class 83 (iii).] Feed mechanism for rotary toolheads, having main and auxiliary toothed rings, is characterized by the auxiliary ring being continuously driven, at the same speed as the main ring. through the internal pinions of a differential gear when there is no feed of the tools. The toolhead 2 having a main toothed ring 9 driven by pinions from a motor 3 rotates in the housing 1 and carries slides 34 which are fed by screwed spindles 10. The auxiliary toothed. ring 12 which is normallv rotated at the same rate as the main ring by gearing from the main drive passing through the differential pinions and the wheel 11, gives the required feed to the tools by varying its rate of rotation compared to that of the main ring; this is effected, by hand or automatically, by rotating the casing 21 of the differential gear. Reversing gear may be provided for rotating the casing of the differential in either direction.
